United Way Leadership St. Joseph

Building the skills of individuals to be effective leaders in the community


United Way Leadership St. Joseph is an annual, year-long leadership development program for adults who live or work in the St. Joseph area. This program creates a network of trained individuals who are willing to engage in leadership and community courses while cultivating unique skills and an enhanced knowledge of this community's opportunities, realities, and challenges.

United Way Leadership St. Joseph applications are available below and through the United Way office.  Participants are accepted into the program by a selection committee after review of submitted applications. Selection criteria includes demonstrated commitment and desire to serve as a community leader. The program is limited to 28 participants each year, begins with a two-day leadership retreat in January, and continues once a month for the remainder of the year. Successful completion requires support from the participant’s employer. Employers often pay their employee’s tuition. Limited scholarships are available. Tuition for the 2018 year is $1,300.

Leadership St. Joseph is made possible by the work of a volunteer steering committee. The committee works with the Leadership St. Joseph Director to make the program as successful as it can be to create a lasting impact on the participants and on our community.
