BEST (Business and Education Succeed Together)

A Program of United Way Profit In Education

One way United Way Profit In Education is working is through the BEST (Business and Education Succeed Together) program. The goal of the United Way BEST program is for students to learn about local businesses, the different jobs available, and the training and education required for those positions. Speakers from the businesses visit the classroom and lead the students through company tours, emphasizing that their businesses hire only high school graduates and that many of the jobs require further training.

During the 2016/2017 school year, Lafayette  and Benton high school freshmen connected to new businesses through tours and presentations as the program supports them through graduation.

United Way BEST business partners include: Altec Industries, Inc; Ellison-Auxier Architects, Inc.; Harley Davidson; Hillyard Industries; Missouri Air National Guard, 139th Airlift Wing; Mosaic Life Care; Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #45; Sheet Metal Worker Apprenticeship Progam; and St. Joseph Police Department.

The United Way BEST program was piloted at Lafayette High School through a grant from the AT&T Foundation in the spring of 2009.
